Jae de Wylde began life as a French and German teacher and was a bit of a closet expat and writer. But when her daughter died in 1999, Jae found herself reassessing what she wanted to do with her life and began a new career as a writer. Life has taken her to Spain and Dubai where she found both time and inspiration for a move into fiction. A debilitating illness led her to yet another reassessment and inspired The Thinking Tank, a truly gripping [...]

I spoke to Angela Williams, who writes as Susan Carey not only about the Writers Abroad online writers’ circle to which she belongs, but also about their newest anthology of fine writings, called Foreign Flavours. The organisation provides support and inspiration for a group of writers all over the world and this is their second anthology, published by [...]

Becoming involved in the Turning Points project has made me realize that we all have worthwhile story and message to share. I may not write brilliantly, but if I don’t step out and share what I write, then the time I take to write is wasted. [...]

Wendy Williams, has been married to an Austrian for 13 years and lives in Vienna. Her new book is published on her wedding anniversary, 13th November. In this interview we discover how she created a new term to apply to those in a multicultural marriage – GloLo – and how Williams cleverly chose to include the wisdom of intercultural and relationship experts in order to ensure her book was well-researched and had the authority it needed. This is a book, rather like Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus, in that it is written to be used and enjoyed by real people and not by academics. It is also very, very [...]

On Sunday, Doris Fuellgrabe interviewed me by the magic of video for the Expat Coach Association website. In this 54 minute film I share my journey starting with my experience, before discussing expat writing and publishing market opportunities, the main reasons expats get into writing, how the publishing industry has changed, where to focus your writing attention, how automation can help you be present in several platforms, how to go from blog to book, and when you know that a book is ‘done’. [...]

Putting together a collaborative book is not easy. From experience I know that the only way you can make this work is to have a strong, resourceful editor. Kate Cobb, a Brit who has emigrated to France, is that editor. Orchestrating a team of 25 collaborators, using the internet to the full, Kate has done a sterling job.
Perhaps the cleverest by-product of this book is the fact that each of its contributors has now become its promoter and [...]

I spoke to the very switched-on editor of a super magazine to which I subscribe. Jane Rowland not only knows a heap about self-publishing she even does some marketing for authors too. Listen to Jane talk about current trends and marketing must-dos. Self-Publishing magazine is quarterly, now available online and will have an article by me in it on crossing genres in the January 2012 issue. [...]
