 books
By Jo Parfitt, Summertime Publishing, on August 10th, 2011
Your blog is your base: have one and use it. It is your connection to the outside world. Whether you are self-published, published by a smaller niche publishing house or by one of the (ever weakening) ‘giants’, you need a presence online. People want to feel that they know, like and trust you. [...]

Here is a book on the sticky subject of actually making a living as a writer. Hard hitting, tough talking, this book is frighteningly frank but also crammed with brilliant ideas, out of the box thinking and what boils down to over 100,000 words of common sense.
If I were to have written this book, it is exactly what I would have [...]

Not only do I like his original concept but I particularly endorse the way his book is very much part of his brand and his business. Books like this increase the profile brilliantly while providing icing on the [...]

A little over a year ago, author, Niamh Ni Bhroin had scarcely begun writing her compelling memoir, The Singing Warrior. Today the book has become a business, an audio book, a music CD and a Kindle product and Niamh is helping others to spear their fears and realise their dreams.
This is a story of hope, of survival and of profound change. Niamh shares the secrets of how she dared to bare her soul on the page here in this, my fourth show at The WIN [...]

By Jo Parfitt, Summertime Publishing, on May 24th, 2011
I only met Linda six month ago and in that time she has learned to write articles, blogs, books and life story. She grabbed her goals by the scruff of the neck and and went for it, blogging 5-7 times a week, getting articles placed worldwide and she is now working on a couple of books. Linda is a role model for any new writer out there who doubts they can do really do it. An American in Holland, Linda is new to expat life but she embraced every challenge and opportunity and is now on the way to cracking [...]
 inspiration

I like to think that my writing workshops, like a journal, provide exactly the kind of safe environment needed by a new writer. However, I also believe that a safe place is not created overnight. It does not happen immediately. No, it takes a few weeks for the students to begin to trust each other in a class setting and for the journaller to be authentic and to trust that being honest is OK. And it is only once that trust is built that new writers dare to bare their souls and speak their truth. To tell their real [...]

It was an evening of pure magic.
The day two of my mentees launched their newly published memoirs at the Kunstkring in The Hague.
Niamh Ni Bhroin celebrated the publication of The Singing Warrior.
Carolyn Vines celebrated the publication of Black and (A)broad.
We all promoted the event on Facebook, and we sent out press invitations [...]
 articles

Our writing goals can often seem too far away, too difficult, impossible even, and so we hover in the foothills of our dreams, shuffling papers and feet and procrastinating. I believe that writing articles should be your first step towards your writing dreams, yes, even (or especially) if your actual goal is to write a full-length book. Articles are shorter, easier to place and a great way to build your portfolio and your [...]
